Yoga and reflexology have been such a valuable part of my life that I would like to share with you some information about my background and journey through these two practices.
My introduction to yoga began shortly after college. After coming across Richard Hittleman’s book, Yoga: 28 Day Exercise Plan , I tried doing the poses, using the pictures and directions as a guide. I soon realized it made my body feel better. At that time, I was very inflexible and had spinal alignment issues. Yoga was an amazing discovery for improving my physical health…and so the journey began.
After many years of taking classes and workshops from a variety of teachers and teaching styles, I felt drawn to study yoga on a more comprehensive level. I had begun to realize that yoga’s benefits went much deeper than just the physical. Yoga balanced me emotionally and psychologically. I was discovering what it felt like to be “centered”. I also realized that when I stopped doing yoga for even a couple of weeks, I would notice changes in myself. In addition to feeling physically less flexible, I would also begin to notice emotional changes, not feeling as calm and centered.
I wanted to share with others what I had learned and experienced from yoga, so in 2003 my journey continued as I completed a 200 hour teacher training and then, in 2007, a 500 hour teacher training. Now I enjoy watching students discover for themselves that yoga is more than just the stretching exercises they do on a mat. They begin to notice how it enhances their lives in so many other ways. I have come to realize that the yoga experience itself is a journey of continual learning and discovering with no ending point and that the possibilities for healing and growing have no limit. My first experience with reflexology was about twenty-five years ago and the memory of that experience is still as vivid today as it was then. By the end of the session, my entire body was so relaxed, I could hardly get up off the table! I couldn't believe that just working the feet could send such a deep wave of relaxation throughout the rest of the body. And I had no idea I had been that tense! Over the years that followed, I dabbled in books and workshops on this wonderful modality, until in 2008, I signed up for training to be able to share the benefits of reflexology with others. The next year, I continued to study and practice and received the national board certification from ARCB (American Reflexology Certification Board ).
